Eligibility Criteria

•  A candidate, who has passed final M.B.B.S., or equivalent, examination from a
  medical college recognized by the Medical Council of India.
• A candidate who has completed one-year compulsory internship before
  31/03/2018. University Internship Completion Certificate is mandatory.
• A candidate, who has appeared for NEET-PG 2018. However, only NEET PG 2018
  qualified candidates shall be eligible for CPS courses recognised by Government
  of India under section 11(2) of MCI act 1956. Please visit the website of medical

•  A candidate shall possess permanent registration certificate from State Medical
  Council of the respective state at the time of joining.
•  The “Foreign Medical Graduates” shall have successfully cleared the qualifying
  exam or eligibility test conducted by NBE, New Delhi.
•  In addition to above (3.1 to 3.5), a candidate desirous for PG seat in Maharashtra
  in an institute run by Government, Corporation or any local body, should have
  passed MBBS from any institution / University in Maharashtra. Candidates, who
  have passed MBBS from outside of Maharashtra, shall not be eligible for
  admission to Government institutions, Corporation institutions or institutions
  run by local bodies in Maharashtra (aided institutions).

Additional criteria for institutes in Gujarat

•  Initially, students, who have cleared SSC, HSC and MBBS from Gujarat
  shall only be considered for seats in Gujarat.
• However, if seats remain vacant, then second preference shall be given
  to candidates who have cleared SSC and HSC in Gujarat, but MBBS from
  outside of Gujarat.

Total seats of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (UT) shall be divided as follows

• 25% of the seats to the serving doctors in the UT who have served for more than 5 years.
•  25% of the seats shall be reserved for the doctors who have cleared MBBS from Dadra And Nagar Haveli (UT) reserve seats
•  50% of the seats shall be allocated to open category. 3.9 Reservation criteria is applicable to all the aided institutions as per the applicable laws/rules prevailing in the respective States/UT.

ADMISSION TO CPS COURSES IN GOVERNMENT DISTRICT HOSPITALS IN MAHARASHTRA

• 50% seats allotted to Government District Hospitals under Director of Health Services shall be filled in by the candidates who are not “In Service” as per the rules of Director of Health Services by central counselling on the basis of PG NEET 2018
  score as per applicable laws prevailing in the Maharashtra state.
• The competent authority appointed by the Director of Health Services shall do document verification, preparation of merit list and allotment of seats.

History 

• The origins of the college go back to the year 1913. In 1913 the British Government through its Governor gave an assent to start such an institution in consonance with the “Royal College of Surgeons of England”. Dr. Rajab Ali Patel agreed to establish such a college by dropping the prefix ‘Royal’ and hence the birth of the institution “College of Physicians and Surgeons” now popularly known as CPS. Initially it was registered under the Bombay Society Act of 1860 in March 1913. vide Annex—(1).
• Established as a sister institute similar to the Royal College of Surgeons in London which dates back to the 14th century, CPS functions as an examining body and provides affiliations to different district & private hospitals and medical colleges.
• CPS Mumbai has been offering various Fellowship and Diploma courses at the Postgraduate level to meet the shortage of specialist doctors in India. It is the only examining body besides the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to have been Recognised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to impart Postgraduate Medical Education and currently has around 1600 Doctors pursuing specialisation under its ambit.

Establishment 

• On 21 April 1912 a meeting of the committee was called to discuss the proposal for forming a college. The proposal was put to vote and passed unanimously. It was also decided that college should function as Registered Society. Steps were, therefore, taken to register it under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and documents were signed to that effect on 4 March 1913.
• Surgeon General H W. Stevenson was unanimously elected as Founder President.
• Dr. Temulji B. Nariman and Col. C. H. L. Meyer were elected as Vice-Presents. The college committee converted itself into the first Council of the college. Then the constitution was drafted and passed unanimously.

Administration office

• CPS is situated in the prime locality of Mumbai near KEM Hospital, Parel and its office comprises an area of approximately 80,000 sq. feet in a five storied building having different departments and the department heads run the day-to-day activities of CPS.
• The CPS has four lecture halls, and 4 examination halls which accommodate approximately 500 students. Even the DNB examinations are held in the CPS twice in a year.
